Evidence of successful teaching experience at the university level required. All candidates must have proven success in conducting research appropriate to their stage of career. Candidates with an ability to conduct research using one or more indigenous African languages are strongly encouraged to apply.

Position Summary:

The Department of African Cultural Studies (ACS) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison invites applications for an open-rank position in gender and sexuality, with a preference for research in southern Africa and/or in Francophone west/central Africa. The ideal candidate will have substantial fieldwork experience, superior knowledge of an African language, and a demonstrable commitment to Africanist scholarship. We welcome candidates who would actively engage in the intellectual life of our department, enhance our commitment to undergraduate and graduate education, and pursue significant ongoing research and publication. The successful candidate will offer courses in African gender studies, theory, and fieldwork, as well as introductory African Cultural Studies courses related to the candidate's cognate discipline(s). Principal Duties
The successful candidate will be expected to teach graduate and undergraduate level courses in African gender studies, theory, and fieldwork, as well as introductory African courses related to the candidate's cognate discipline(s). African Cultural Studies teaching load is two courses per semester, fall and spring. The successful candidate will also engage in significant ongoing research and publication and will perform department, university and community services as appropriate for faculty rank.
