The Colorado Center for Personalized Medicine (CCPM) has an opening for a full-time, University Staff (unclassified) Biobank Clinical Laboratory Manager (Research Services Manager) position.

Nature of Work:
Jobs in this career family provide direct professional support of research activities. Functions include contracts and grants solicitation and administration, grant/agreement preparation, review and negotiation, regulatory compliance, sponsor communication and post and pre award management, human subject compliance, research animal management, research laboratory coordination and instruction, environmental health and safety, radiation control, hazardous materials use, disposal and training.

Managers are responsible for the day-to-day operation of functional work units, including the Development and implementation of processes consistent with college, school or departmental strategies and processes and the supervision of professional and support staff.

Position Emphasis:

The Colorado Center for Personalized Medicine (CCPM) Biobank is a system-wide health venture that aims to collect thousands of biological samples from patients for clinical genetic testing in accordance with CLIA regulations and CAP guidelines as well as for basic, translational, and clinical research. The Biobank currently collects and stores blood and DNA, although this is expected to expand to include other sample types.

The University of Colorado | Colorado Center for Personalized Medicine (CCPM) has an opening for a full-time, University Staff (non-classified) Biobank Clinical Laboratory Manager. This role is responsible for the oversight of operations and personnel. The Laboratory Manager must be responsible for the proper performance of all laboratory activity. Broad areas of responsibility include but are not limited to:

  • Managing day-to-day laboratory operations.
  • Monitoring test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure that acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained.
  • Evaluating and documenting the performance of all testing personnel.
  • Maintaining compliance with CLIA/CAP regulations and preparing for regulatory inspections.
  • Accountable for customer satisfaction.
  • Working cooperatively in a team environment supporting clinicians, researchers, trainees, and administrators as well as senior laboratory and management staff.
  • Ensuring operational compliance with the clinical laboratory's Quality Management Systems (QMS) and delivering routine QMS associated metrics.
  • Participating in the QMS meetings, presenting activities and metric outcomes to review and assess compliance, developing and implementing remedial activity plans, as needed, and activities for quality improvement.
  • Training and proficiency in the laboratory's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for clinical testing and knowledgeable in their quality control parameter.
  • Providing leadership and managerial oversight to the Biobank (including 2 FTE).

Salary and Benefits:

The hiring salary for this position is commemorate with skills and experience. This position is not eligible for overtime.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological science, clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
  • Five (5) years of experience in a clinical laboratory.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • MB(ASCP) or other appropriate ASCP certification.
  • Previous experience working with high-throughput genetic testing, microarray genotyping, and/or previous experience in a CAP-accredited Biorepository.
  • A Master's or higher earned degree in a chemical, physical, biological science, clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
  • Experience working with Laboratory Information Management Systems for tracking of specimens, workflows, and reagents.
  • Experience managing laboratory staff and performing competency assessments.
  • Experience in laboratory management and regulatory compliance.

Competencies/Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Technical laboratory skills and biospecimen data management including experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems for tracking of specimens, workflows, and reagents.
  • Proficiency in molecular laboratory techniques and data analysis in a wide range of platforms. Competency in designing clinical laboratory validation studies.
  • Excellent attention to detail, proven ability to work both independently and as a team, and excellent communication and time management.
  • Ability to use Microsoft products.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
