Job Summary
The Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) at the University of Colorado is seeking a recent graduate in the field of electrical or aerospace engineering (or a related field) to lead the systems design of current and future space science missions. The successful candidate will work with CU Professors Brian Fleming and Kevin France on a wide variety of existing projects, including small satellites and CubeSats, sounding rocket-borne instruments, and laboratory technology development. Applicants able to spend 4-6 weeks at remote launch sites per year (including White Sands Missile Range, Reagan Test Site, Wallops Flight Facility, and Equatorial Launch Australia) will be given special consideration. Familiarity with microchannel plates or other space detector systems will be considered a strong attribute.

The Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) at the University of Colorado Boulder (CU) began in 1948, a decade before NASA. We are the world’s only research institute to have sent instruments to all eight planets and Pluto.
LASP combines all aspects of space exploration through our expertise in science, engineering, mission operations, and scientific data analysis. As part of CU, LASP also works to educate and train the next generation of space scientists, engineers and mission operators by integrating undergraduate and graduate students into working teams. Our students take their unique experiences with them into government or industry, or remain in academia to continue the cycle of exploration.
LASP is an affiliate of CU Boulder AeroSpace Ventures, a collaboration among aerospace-related departments, institutes, centers, government labs, and industry partners.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
- Provide support for laboratory assembly and calibration in conjunction with both the senior science team as well as students.
- Support integration and testing activities suborbital and nanosatellite missions.
- Support launch operations for suborbital rockets and nanosatellites.
- Perform electrical engineering design and test.
- Support environmental testing (vibration, thermal vacuum etc.)
- Work with Ultra-violet optics.
- Review telemetry records to evaluate launch readiness of a flight instrument/system.

- B.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Physics, Electrical Engineering, or relevant technical field from an accredited institution.
