Job Summary

The School of Education at the University of Colorado Boulder seeks a tenure track assistant professor in Learning Sciences and Human Development for the 2019-2020 academic year.

This scholar will join an internationally recognized faculty whose deep commitments to equity and access are reflected in their research, policy, and practice. We seek a scholar who is dedicated to addressing the pressing educational challenges facing Colorado and the world through a wide range of methodological and disciplinary perspectives. Importantly, we also seek a scholar who is engaged in working with culturally and linguistically diverse populations of students and teachers. We are united as faculty, staff and students through our shared commitment to democracy, diversity, equity, and justice through evidence-based policy and practice.

We seek a faculty member at the Assistant Professor level who will positively contribute to our innovative teacher education, Master’s, and doctoral programs. Candidates should have research and teaching experience that will contribute to the continued development of our interdisciplinary Learning Sciences and Human Development (LSHD) program area. Teaching and program development responsibilities include LSHD courses in undergraduate and post-baccalaureate teacher education programs, doctoral teaching and advising, and contributions to our new undergraduate majors. The School has a range of new and developing programs, such as bachelor’s degrees in Elementary Education and Leadership and Community Engagement, MA degrees designed to support educators in Colorado and globally, and a thriving interdisciplinary doctoral program. The LSHD program has strong collaborations with scholars and institutes across the School and the University, including CU Boulder’s Institute of Cognitive Science, ATLAS Institute, Information Sciences, as well as other institutes.

We seek applicants whose scholarly focus on learning and development addresses issues of equity, power, and justice in educational contexts in schools and communities. We are especially interested in applicants whose research considers the social, cultural, and political complexities of learning and development in situ. We prefer applicants who work in engaged, mutualistic, place-based partnership with educators, activists and learners, as well as those who take a design- and action-oriented stance toward learning environments that has implications for both theory and practice. Desired research areas may include, but are not limited to: learning on the move and in places, action civics; community-based design research / social design experiments, postcolonial approaches to learning research, participatory design, new digital media, and teacher learning and development.
