Degree and Area of Specialization:

Doctoral degree (PhD, ScD, or equivalent) in public policy, economics, sociology, biostatistics, statistical genomics, computer science, statistics, epidemiology, psychology, public health, or other quantitative field related to the discipline as described below.

Prefer candidates with experience or a demonstrated interest in both methodological development and collaborative applications, and in motivating their methodological research through such social science, biological, clinical, and/or health sciences applications.



Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

Years of experience will be commensurate with the rank sought. All candidates must have proven success in leading and conducting scholarly research using both genomic and social science data appropriate to their stage of career. Associate/Full Professor candidates must possess experience and scholarly credentials for appointment with tenure at teh University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison). Tenure-track candidates will be expected to develop a strong scholarly research program leading to publication at the national and international level. Appointment at the tenured level requires evidence of excellence in scholarly research, teaching and service and requires review by the appropriate Divisional Tenure Committee at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

A key consideration is the ability to and interest in working in a collaborative, interdisciplinary envrionment.

Position Summary:

The successful candidate for this position will be expected to develop and maintain a vigorous, collaborative, cutting-edge, highly visible and extramurally-funded research program that specializes in data integration from genomic and social sciences sources with a focus on statistical and computational approaches to genetic prediction (genetic risk scores/polygenic scores) and/or the application of these scores to answering social and health sciences questions.

The candidate will be expected to advise graduate and post-graduate research in the area of social genomics; develop and maintain extramural funding for their research program; and teach graduate and undergraduate courses and develop new courses in their area of expertise, as appropriate. Faculty hired under this initiative will have primary faculty appointments in one or more campus departments in fields related to social genomics, including Biostatistics and Medical Informatics, Population Health Sciences, Sociology, Public Affairs, or Psychology, and will become affiliates with some set of interdisciplinary centers and institutes across campus, such as the Center for the Demography of Health and Aging, the Center for Demography and Ecology, the Institute for Research on Poverty, Waisman Center, the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery, and the Center for Human Genomics and Precision Medicine. Instruction and research leadership and participation in faculty governance at the department level are expected. University and community service will also be expected as appropriate.

Social Genomics is a field of research that integrates theories, data, and methods across the social, health, and genetic sciences. This position is one of three hiring opportunities in this area and is part of an interdisciplinary cluster hiring initiative (https://facstaff.provost.wisc.edu/cluster-hiring-initiative/), designed to foster innovative, outstanding research programs that will stimulate productive interactions among faculty and students interested in the integration of genetics and social science research across the campus and to expand interdisciplinary research in this area. The cluster will include the following three positions: 1) PVL 95311 (this position), 2) PVL 95085, and 3) PVL 95310.
