Posting Summary:
The University of Virginia Department of Emergency Medicine's Division of Prehospital Medicine seeks an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Physician to join it's faculty. The Division has four faculty members who are active as Operational Medical Directors for a broad portfolio of agencies. In addition there are other EM faculty who support the EMS teaching and operational mission through research and educational activities. Our EMS physicians oversee training programs, EMS outreach, and air and ground based EMS assets. As part of the recruitment package for the successful candidate, EMS medical director responsibilities will be made available. Faculty rank, tenure status, and salary will be commensurate with credentials and experience. The prehospital division was founded over 25 years ago, and enjoys a rich tradition in providing clinical care, training and education, research and leadership in EMS at the regional and national levels. Our EMS services provide care for patients within a large geographic area in central Virginia. We work closely with local, regional and state agencies to promote the highest quality of care for our patients. Our EMS physicians serve as core faculty for our fully (ACGME) accredited EMS Fellowship that is available as a one or two year program. Our faculty also provide EMS training to our emergency medicine residents, medical students, and prehospital care providers. We have an active special events medical management program to provide care at large gatherings and provide leadership in disaster planning and mass casualty response.

The UVA Medical Center has an annual ED census of 64,000, and is scheduled to open a new ED as part of the bed tower expansion in the second half of 2019. UVA EM offers other fellowships in medical toxicology, administration, research, emergency ultrasound, cardiovascular medicine, and medical education. The faculty have access to three simulation centers to enhance training, and play a pivotal role in medical student education through our required third-year clerkship.

Qualified applicants must have an MD or DO degree (or its foreign equivalent) and be eligible to obtain an unrestricted Virginia medical license.
