Under general direction of the Financial Administrative Officer (FAO) and general supervision of the Director, provide accounting and administrative support for the UCR Spin and Heat in Nanoscale Electronic Systems (SHINES) Center funded by the Department of Energy (DOE).
Serve as Travel and Events Coordinator. Primary responsibilities include: independently prepare travel vouchers and entertainment reimbursements for Center Director, Principal Investigators, Visiting Researchers, Academics and Students; coordinate student grants and travel advances; provide administrative assistance for Center Director.
Coordinate and supervise Center purchasing, deliveries, facilities and equipment repair and maintenance orders in compliance with appropriate policies, guidelines and procedures. Independently process a large volume of requisitions for a variety of materials, scientific and technical supplies and equipment. Determine and advise on best source for all vendor purchases as well as facilities and equipment repair, phone and communication services, printing and reprographic services. Reconcile monthly Center expense reports; act as first point of contact with campus departments to respond to inquiries and reconcile discrepancies. Provide support for the day-to-day accounting, recharge operations, scheduling meetings and other administrative support functions.
The DOE SHINES Center is one of forty-two Energy Frontier Research Centers (EFRCs) in the country. The EFRCs represent a unique approach, bringing together creative, multidisciplinary scientific teams to tackle the toughest scientific challenges preventing advances in energy technologies. The Center team is comprised of four UCR faculty and four collaborators from partner universities. The Center will operate under the Department of Physics & Astronomy.
This is a career position that is expected to continue over a two-year period.

Purchasing: Demonstrated extensive and responsible purchasing and accounting experience in an online environment. Ability to analyze varying product and service features, prices and qualities, and determine the most cost effective purchase for the department.
Effective communication skills: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively using tact and diplomacy with internal and external customers, both verbally and in writing.
Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail.
Demonstrated skill in using computer applications, including Adobe, MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Self-Management and Organizational Skills: Skill in working independently and following through on assignments with minimal direction; skill in performing effectively under a fluctuating workload; skill in organizing tasks, documents and materials with efficiency and accuracy.
Interpersonal Skills: Work as part of a team and collaborate with colleagues; ability to work effectively in a strong service environment with a diverse population.
Experience working in an institution of higher learning.
Knowledge of federal, state, private agency, campus, UC policies, procedures and practices.
Demonstrated knowledge of University of financial policies and procedures.
Skill and knowledge of UCRFS, UCRFS totals, eBUY, ePAY, iTravel, and other on-line accounting and purchasing systems.
Experience within a customer service oriented environment responding to and meeting/exceeding the needs of the customer while adhering to policy.
