WFSU-TV/The Florida Channel

Located in the state Capitol building, The FLORIDA Channel is a public affairs programming service funded by The Florida Legislature and produced and operated by WFSU-TV.

The Florida Channel produces 24/7, year-round coverage of all three branches of state government. Programming includes gavel-to-gavel coverage of a wide variety of state proceedings, along with a wide variety of documentary and public affairs programs and segments covering issues of interest and importance to all Floridians. The programming is delivered statewide by satellite and is also available on the Internet.


Creates graphic elements for various uses within TFC programming. Communicates extensively and proactively with other TFC staff to understand needs and create the best possible product. Monitors on-air product via in-office monitor and/or online to ensure quality and accuracy and to recommend changes that reflect the dynamic quality of TFC programming and the industry in general.

Maintains the name key database used in TFC programming. Proactively communicates and coordinates extensively with Master Control to ensure continuity with their system. Works to proactively improve the name key design to keep up with current industry standards. Other duties as assigned.

Responsible for researching- and advocating for- training opportunities and new technology to keep the other TFC team members who utilize and create graphic elements up to date on standard and best practices within the industry.

Provides leadership through example and advises on the use of graphic elements to the other TFC team members who utilize and create graphic elements and other TFC personnel, per TFC operating procedure and established stylistic choices.


An Associate's degree in a related area and two years of appropriate experience or vocational/technical training with two years of appropriate experience.

Ability to type 35+ cwpm, multi-task, prioritize and manage work under pressure in a team-oriented, fast-paced broadcast environment.

Ability to produce work product under specific deadlines.

Good verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills.

Exceptional creativity and innovation skills.

Knowledge of television production practices, standards and techniques.

Knowledge and experience using computer assisted graphics technologies/software, associated peripherals, digital cameras, and related equipment.

Strong organization skills to include file management and keen attention to detail.

Good problem solving skills.

Ability to take direction and manage work from start to finish while collaborating with others involved.


Preferred technical knowledge and experience with industry standard editing and graphic software such as Final Cut Pro or Avid; Photoshop, Illustrator, Motion, Aftereffects or comparable software. Experience creating and inserting graphic elements during a LIVE production is preferred.

A typing test will be given at interview.

Anticipated Salary Range

Dependent on education and experience.

Pay Plan

This is an USPS (University Support Personnel System) position.

Soft Money Funded Position

This position is time-limited based on soft money funding, with renewal contingent upon available funds and the needs of the University.


Monday-Friday, 9:00am-6:00pm; however, flexibility is required as hours may vary to meet department needs. Overtime, weekends might be required.

Criminal Background Check

This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check. The background check will be conducted as authorized and in accordance with University Policy 4-OP-C-7-B11.
