The Florida Channel - located in Tallahassee, FL - produces 24/7, year-round coverage of all three branches of state government. Programming includes gavel-to-gavel coverage of a wide variety of state proceedings, along with daily news programs, documentaries, public affairs programs and segments covering issues of interest and importance to all Floridians. The programming is delivered statewide by satellite and is also available on the Internet.

Responsibilities

Serves as a Senior Reporter for Capitol Update and Producer/Reporter for Florida Crossroads and other TFC programming. This position is responsible for leading the production of story development for daily and weekly programs, gathering and analyzing information about newsworthy events, and assisting in proofreading content. These duties are in addition to the daily news gathering, reporting and editing responsibilities required. Must be able to function professionally independently and creatively in the production environment.

Contributes to regularly occurring interstitial program segments and other programming formats. Establishes and maintains professional contacts with key Communications Directors in various agencies and departments, adheres to and implements generally accepted creative and technical principles of broadcast production.

Provides production and administrative support including but not limited to communicating the status of taped elements among tape operator, producer, editors and reporters, running teleprompter for various programs, and assisting front desk personnel with timely submission of requested/required information. Some overtime and travel may be required. Other Duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or related area and a minimum of three years reporting in a professional broadcast environment.

Ability to work a flexible schedule and travel as needed.

Strong writing and research skills.

Experience writing scripts on deadline.

Ability to think creatively and carry out specific program concepts after receiving general guidance - but with limited supervision.

On-camera experience.

Attention to detail; effective time-management and organizational skills.

Ability to work as part of a team on tight deadlines.

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal with fast-changing situations are necessary; often in public.

A valid Florida or Georgia driver's license or the ability to obtain license upon hire.

Preferred

Familiarity with Florida Government.

Anticipated Salary Range

Dependent on education and experience.

Pay Plan

This is an USPS (University Support Personnel System) position.

Soft Money Funded Position

This position is time-limited based on soft money funding, with renewal contingent upon available funds and the needs of the University.

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 8:30am-5:30pm; however, hours will vary and may include weekends and evenings. Flexibility is required.

Criminal Background Check

This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check. The background check will be conducted as authorized and in accordance with University Policy 4-OP-C-7-B11.
