Description: Humboldt State University's School of Business invites applicants for an academic year tenure-track faculty position in Accounting. The mission of the School of Business is to provide entrepreneurial, hands-on, applied learning experience through close student interaction with faculty and the community, with a commitment to sustainable social, environmental and economic development. The School of Business is currently undergoing significant growth with a focus on developing the next generation of leaders in sustainable and socially responsible business. Professional Qualifications: A Ph.D. or equivalent in Accounting or closely related field from an accredited college or university is preferred at time of appointment. Applicants with considerable progress toward terminal degree completion by appointment date (August 2019) will be considered.

Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate the following:
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching as demonstrated by student evaluations;
  • Demonstrated expertise in teaching Taxation, Auditing, or Financial Accounting;
  • Evidence of an active CPA license or other professional accounting certification;
  • Demonstrated experience teaching online classes;
  • Ability and/or interest in teaching courses that emphasize principles of sustainable business;
  • Documented accounting or other relevant professional business experience; and
  • Evidence of publishing in scholarly journals.

    At the time of appointment, the successful candidate, if not a U.S. citizen, must have authorization from the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services to work in the United States.     Professional Duties: Candidates should be committed to teaching excellence and to building a strong research record. Instructional assignments may include courses, such as: Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, Intermediate/Advanced Accounting, Cost Accounting, Auditing, Accounting Ethics, Corporate Social Responsibility Accounting, Tax Accounting, and Governmental & Nonprofit Accounting. Instructional assignments will be consistent with the programmatic needs of the department and students.

    The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members are teaching, research, scholarship and creative activity, and service to the university, profession and community. These responsibilities include advising students, participation in academic committees, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues and community stakeholders, and participation in traditional academic functions. Probationary faculty are typically provided ongoing mentorship to be a successful member of the faculty. During the first two years of the probationary period, teaching responsibilities will be reduced by approximately one course each semester. The reduced teaching load supports the establishment of research, scholarship and/or creative activities required for retention, tenure and promotion.

    General Information: The School of Business supports approximately 550 business majors and an innovative one-year MBA program. The School provides many hands-on learning opportunities such as paid internships, applied community projects, and a flipped class framework. The School works collaboratively with the Office of Economic, Community & Business Development, one of California's six leading Small Business Development Centers, and various other business and economic development leaders in helping meet the region's business, economic, and workforce development.     New faculty employees hired by the CSU for the first time who first become CalPERS members on or after July 1, 2017 are subject to a 10-year vesting period for retiree health and dental benefits.
