This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
The primary purpose and objectives for the Experimental Agriculture and Field Station Technician (Instructional Support Technician II) position include: Assist with scientific research and maintenance of agricultural operations at SDSU Field Stations; Manage crops and ongoing experiments therein, including, but not limited to, weeding, fertilization, pest and disease control, and administration of experimental treatments. Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot irrigation lines, micro sprinklers & drip irrigation. Operation and mechanical maintenance of farm equipment. Hedge, prune and prep grove for growing season. Help collect, manage and distribute experimental data from agricultural experiments. Review production goals and reports and present to upper management. Maintain and enforce policies and procedures. Implement and provide logistical support for proposed University projects. Provide on-site security and patrol in accordance to Field Station Program protocols. Assist in logistical and infrastructure support including: road maintenance, field station housing management. Act as liaison for education outreach programs and assist with mentorship of student research projects.

Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $4,100 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,748 - $6,582 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

Equivalent to three years of experience providing instructional support services for a related unit or discipline, or in producing materials or supplies or repairing equipment in a discipline related to specialty area to which assigned.
Equivalent to two years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in a discipline related to the area to which assigned may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
Equivalent to four years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in a discipline related to the specialty area to which assigned may be substituted for two years of the required experience.
Preferred Qualifications and Specialized Skills
- Experience in growing and maintaining fruit trees.
- Experience in installing and maintaining irrigation lines.
- Experience in Integrated Pest Management.
- Experience in Complete Organic Fertilization.
- Experience in light equipment including: Skid steers, backhoe loaders, boom lifts.
- Experience in Education and Interpretation.
- Experience in Volunteer Coordination and Community Engagement.
