JOB TITLE: Associate Dean for Clinical Education
SUPERVISOR: Dean for College of Dental Medicine
EFFORT: 1.0 FTE, Full Time, Exempt
EDUCATION: DDS, DMD
The Associate Dean of Clinical Education will be part of the College of Dental Medicine faculty and a key member of the Dean’s leadership team. With their exemplary reputation as an academic leader in clinical dental education, the Associate Dean will provide leadership, development, and innovation to all clinical education programs.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Assistant Dean Clinical Education will be responsible for:
- Developing the clinical practicum courses for the DMD curriculum, including clinical course curriculum/syllabi, competency evaluations including rubrics, in conjunction with clinical course directors
- Work with the associate Dean of clinical affairs to provide a patient centered comprehensive care model for the DMD students
- Develop a group practice model wth group leaders that bring students into a health system patient centered, dentist led practice
- Managing the College of Dental Medicine’s relationships with regard to clinical education at externship sites
- Verifying student’s externship eligibility with academic affaris and student affairs
- Ensuring the clinical education program meets licensing and University requirements
- Monitor student performance at externship and practicum sites
- Being intimately familiar with ADA and CODA clinical education requirements in CODA standard 2 and developed programs mapped to those requirements that meet the program learning outcomes of CNSU
- Ensuring students have a variety of training opportunities tailored to their needs and experience level
- Review and act on strengths and weaknesses in training reported by students regarding practicum sites
- Resolve issues with regard to student activities in the clinical practicum
- Developing policies and procedures for student conduct in the clinical practicum
- Work with the leadership team to develop OSCE’s , simulation, and other active learning to enhance effectiveness in the clinical practicum
- Write and maintain a clinical Practicum Handbook with the leadership team
- Develop training modules with faculty for practicum supervisors that will calibrate all faculty to clinical education standards for performance and evaluation
- Ensure students receive adequate experience for CODA accreditation
- Active engagement with the outcome and evaluation from accrediting bodies including WASCUC and CODA.
- Serving on the Dean’s Executive Committee
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Must have:
- Excellent leadership skills
- A , DMD, DDS and advanced training or degree from an accredited program
- Experience managing complex organizational tasks
- A proven track record of writing and approving policies and procedures
- Experience evaluating academic program effectiveness
- Previous experience with conflict resolution
- Knowledge of accrediting standards, including WASC and CODA
- The ability to analyze complex problems and provide solutions
- Comprehensive knowledge of the discipline of dental medicine
- The ability to speak and write clearly and concisely
Preferred:
- A license to practice in the state of California
- Completion of an dental internship
- Experience working on teams with a variety of healthcare professionals
- Knowledge of local training and educational opportunities for students
- Prior teaching experience at various academic levels
- Establishment of positive and harmonious relationships with others
- Proven excellence in public speaking
- Previous experience representing a large organization to the public

About: Our new 110,000 square foot facility located in Elk Grove is right off of Interstate 5 just minutes south of Sacramento. The new facility is currently home to both the College of Pharmacy and College of Medicine and was designed with new academic and research facilities for our students and faculty. Our new College of Health Sciences facility is located right off of Highway 50 just minutes west of Sacramento. The College of Health Sciences program offers a four-year Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences, 2+4 and 3+4 BS-MD and BS-PharmD accelerated programs in partnership with the CNU College of Medicine and College of Pharmacy, and a Pre-Med Post Baccalaureate Program.
