Facilities Management has an opening for a full-time State Classified General Labor II position.

Job Summary:
The General Labor II, a State Classified position, assists in the oversight and delivery of the Custodial Services Contract. This position performs daily inspections of the assigned areas to make sure the desired quality of custodial services is met. This position will perform daily cleaning inspections for cleaning contractor, restocking of house-keeping supplies and support for clean up with custodial contractor, and provide assistance for special events by setting up and tearing down stages, canopies, placement of tables and chairs, and other items as needed. In addition, this position will work hand in hand with the Materials Handling area through their Supervisor to assist when needed with the receiving of deliveries and escorting the delivery people to their destination within the facility. This service will be provided when there is no Materials Handling personnel available. This position is also part of the snow removal team; cleaning snow and ice on sidewalks and entrances to buildings.

Examples of Work Performed:

Quality Assurance Program (50%)
Conducts and documents daily inspections of all buildings/areas assigned to ensure the quality and level of custodial services are being met. Reports any problems to the appropriate service provider including, but not limited to custodial contractor, building maintenance, etc. Interacts with supervisory staff and day porters from the custodial vendor and customers throughout the campuses to ensure expectations are fully met. On occasion performs custodial duties as needed to re-stock paper goods, emergency cleanups, and assists in snow removal, other duties as assigned.

Materials Handling & Escorting of Delivery Personnel (5%)
Assists in the receiving of materials, equipment, supplies, and furniture by providing escort service to the delivery personnel when needed. This service is provided to assist the Materials Handling Department when their personnel are not available. This function helps to keep the dock areas clean and prevents people from wandering around the facilities and in secure areas. This position must operate a university vehicle to transport materials.

Moving, Set Ups and Tear Downs of Special Events (20%)
Performs set ups and tear downs of canopies, stages, placement of chairs and tables used for various campus events. Coordinates with supervisor to assure all meetings and events are set up properly and in a timely manner with customers' needs being met or exceeded.

Removal of Debris, Furniture and Equipment (5%)
Collects debris and waste from grounds, walkways, and entrances by cleaning exterior surfaces, removes all debris and rubbish, pallets, abandoned furniture and equipment from halls, stairwells, and docks maintaining a clean and safe facility inside and out. Gives direction to others who may be responsible for a particular task. Reports any safety related issues to the appropriate parties.

Emergencies, Pest Control and Other Duties (20%)
Participates and assists in emergencies based on the magnitude and nature. Will be assisting Integrated Pest Management Supervisor with all pest control duties and will be primary back up in his absence (i.e. vacation, sick). Will be trained in all pest control areas and will work under IPM Supervisor's license. May be assigned other duties as required including, but not limited to assisting with the confidential shredding, waste/recycling, and flag programs.

Salary and Benefits:
Hiring Salary Range: $2,717 - $3,863/ month (non-negotiable)*

*The salary offered is usually the minimum listed, however, a salary above the minimum may be offered for some hard to fill positions.

This position is eligible for overtime compensation

Minimum Qualifications:

  • One year of experience providing custodial services and customer service
Conditions of Employment:
  • Must be a resident of Colorado at the time of application
  • Must be willing and able to pass a criminal background check, motor vehicle check and drug test
  • Subject to pre-employment, post-accident, incident, or reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing per UCD Facilities Operations Department Policies
  • NOTE: This position has been designated as essential personnel, "Subject to call 24 hours per day, seven days per week" and may be required to carry a cell phone. Position may also be required to "Stay over late" or "Come in early" to "Cover" shifts, as needed and may be required to respond to any emergencies as needed. If hired, you will be required to provide effective off-hours phone contact info for emergency call-in purposes.
  • Must be willing and able to lift and carry up to 100 lbs. occasionally, and up to 50 lbs. frequently, and up to 20 lbs. constantly
  • Must be willing and able to walk, stand, use manual dexterity, and eye/hand coordination constantly
  • Must be willing and able to sit, climb, crawl, kneel, bend, reach, push, and pull frequently
  • Must be willing and able to work outside, exposed to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by the weather, and in high, exposed places
