Assistant or Associate Professor - Athletic Training

Job description




The Department of Health Sciences at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) invites applications for a forward thinking, creative, tenure track Assistant/Associate Professor of Athletic Training to start in August, 2019. Standard workload is 15 credit hours per academic year in a 40% teaching, 40% research, and 20% service distribution. The successful candidate is expected to teach collaboratively within the Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) program; engage in scholarship in their area of expertise; support/direct graduate student research; and engage in service and leadership within the department, college, university and CU System.

The MSAT program is in the first year of seeking initial accreditation with an anticipated site visit in spring 2020; applicants should demonstrate the ability to contribute to the accreditation process. Team teaching is prominent in the program and the applicant should address his or her ability to incorporate team teaching within their teaching philosophy and function collaboratively with the athletic training and department faculty. Applicants should be able to demonstrate their commitment to ethics, diversity, and equity and how it would be modeled in the classroom.Experience with high-fidelity simulation and/or interprofessional education is highly desirable.

The William J. Hybl Center for Sports Medicine and Performance, scheduled to open in April 2020, will integrate the clinical expertise of Centura Health with the college's academic capabilities to create a world-class environment for clinical practice, interprofessional education, and research. This Center will host a new teaching laboratory for the Athletic Training program.

The Helen and Arthur E. Johnson Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences (the college) is a distinguished and innovative college providing excellence in education, scholarship and practice in the health professions, facilitating collaboration for the promotion of a healthy community. The college currently serves ~1400 students (80% undergraduate and 20% graduate) through its programs in the Department of Nursing and the Department of Health Sciences. Planned growth of existing programs and expansion in the areas of anatomy and physiology, exercise science, and physical therapy have the potential to double enrollment in the college over the next five years.

Qualifications


Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD or EdD in a field closely related to athletic training. (Degree at time of application or official evidence of completion of degree by August 15, 2019)
  • BOC Certification in good standing and eligible for Colorado Athletic Training registration.
  • National Provider Identifier (NPI) number
  • Minimum of 9 months full-time teaching athletic training in higher education
  • Minimum of 9 months of full-time teaching in a CAATE accredited athletic training program.
  • Minimum of 18 months of clinical practice in athletic training


Preferred Qualifications:
  • 27 months of full-time teaching in higher education highly preferred.
  • Evidence of successful teaching at the graduate level is highly preferred.
  • Preferred areas of teaching experience include: therapeutic modalities, rehabilitation, pharmacology, and/or care for special populations.
  • Knowledge and experience with CAATE accreditation
  • Record of scholarly activity conducting and publishing original research in the area of athletic training.
