Job Summary:

The Financial Specialist position is located in the Wisconsin Center for Education Research (WCER) on the UW-Madison campus. WCER is the largest education research center in the United States and currently houses more than 100 research and fee-for-service projects supported by approximately 500 faculty and staff. The center generates more than $60 million of revenue in awards and services annually.

This position will serve as a travel and supply procurement cardholder in WCER and is responsible for providing the required documentation and accurate funding for all procurement card transactions per university and state financial policies and procedures. The financial specialist is also responsible for other financial and auditing activities such as processing invoices with Accounts Payable, receiving/ verifying checks for WCER's revenue producing projects, entering financial information into WCER's encumbrance management application, and providing assistance with WCER custodial funds. This position also provides backup support to the Office Operations Associate and will assist with general office communications, managing the key checkout system, and conference room bookings.

The decision-making is in accordance with department, School of Education, and University procedures. The individual must exercise good, independent decision-making, and have the ability to handle adverse or difficult situations. The financial specialist is a resource to a staff of approximately 500 employees including faculty, academic staff, university staff, graduate and undergraduate students, and post docs. The ability to deal with people in a pleasant and professional manner is required. The employee works under general supervision.
