Position Summary: The Assistant Dean/Director of the Carolina Veterans Resource Center is a resource, advocate, and liaison for a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, parents/ families, and community partners who supports and contributes to student resilience and success at Carolina. This position is highly collaborative and plays active roles in non-clinical student case management, student veteran and military-affiliated support, as well as leading initiatives for/on behalf of the Office of the Dean of Students. This position will supervise the day-to-day operations of the Carolina Veterans Resource Center, including the supervising of the Student Veterans Assistance Coordinator and the Boot Print to Heel Print Assistant Coordinator (time limited). Additionally, the position serves as a member of the Student Affairs on-call student crisis/emergency Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) and is designated as both a Campus Security Authority and Responsible Employee. This position reports directly to the Senior Associate Dean of Students/Director of the ODOS and contributes to a team-oriented environment in the Office of the Dean of Students team, partnering with colleagues on- and off-campus. This position will be 40 hrs/week with, on-call responsibilities require after hours and weekend work

Education Requirements: Master's degree in higher education, student affairs, counseling, or other relevant field of study (including other post-bachelor's professional degrees).

Qualification and Experience: Required Experience: For full consideration, applicants must have five (5) or more years of full-time professional experience post-graduate degree attainment or eight (8) years of full-time professional experience pre- or post-graduate degree attainment. All experience must be directly related and relevant to the position description. Two years in a related graduate assistantship may equal one professional year. Additionally, the successful candidate will have the following work experience: Demonstrated understanding of issues of diversity and inclusion; demonstrated leadership and effectiveness in promoting respect and appreciation for diversity and inclusion among students, faculty, staff, and families; Professional experience working with or supporting people in high need or emotional situations or crises; Awareness of best practices, theory, issues and concerns related to the military-affiliated, veteran and/or active duty college student population, including but not limited to knowledge of VA benefits, financial aid/student account policies and business procedures/practices; Experience managing or overseeing program, department, or area financial resources; Experience handling confidential and sensitive information and situations; Proven oral and written communication skill, including experience conducting presentations for varied audiences; Proven ability to prioritize work appropriately, think critically, and adapt to changing priorities as well as work independently on multiple tasks and deal effectively with conflicting priorities; Experience supervising staff through direct reports and or via significant committee/taskforce leadership; Candidates must have the ability to work some evenings and weekends.
