Dissertation Faculty Position Description

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as Dissertation Chair for assigned students (PT faculty will chair 12 dissertations)
  • Instruct courses/seminars for Business Psychology students to develop specific project documents and to help facilitate the completion of a Dissertation
  • Review and provide written feedback on student academic documents using English writing conventions and APA guidelines
  • Working with the course instructor, grade the written assessment assignment for incoming PhD and Master's students
  • Assign grades to student documents to determine if the document meets standards to continue on the next phase
  • Track students' progress throughout and prepare them for final submission and review of the Dissertation
  • Mentor students with academic culture and scholarly writing
  • Research and prepare additional resources students need in order to effectively complete submissions and the Dissertation
  • Maintain communication with students, through email and telephone, to ensure they are successfully completing deliverables
  • Present course and program information through various online platforms such as a course management system or webinar applications
  • Other duties and responsibilities as determined by department


Qualifications:
  • PhD
  • Academic background suitable to work with Business Psychology students
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, campus management systems, and webinar applications
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar
  • Knowledge of general behavioral and social science principals, research methods, and individual differences in ability
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, internet programs, campus management systems, and email
  • Ability to learn online delivery format and course management system
  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to independently problem solve
  • Understand and implement different teaching strategies to appropriately help students understand concepts and ideas
  • Ability to assess student performance to take corrective action
  • Manage one's time in order to complete tasks. Ability to meet deadlines and keep others on task
  • Ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas verbally and in writing so others will understand
  • Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
  • Ability to build and maintain professional relationships with students over time
  • Maintain an understanding that flexibility is necessary when working with online students, and there is freedom in decision-making
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required
