Position Summary:

The Arkansas State University Department of Art + Design seeks applicants for a full-time, instructor position in Digital Innovation (DI) beginning January 2019. The DI program will be served online through A-State’s AOS program.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Teaching load consists of five online courses (3 hours each) per semester (spread over two 7-week, half semesters), including foundational, intermediate, and advanced courses.
  • The Art + Design’s online Digital Innovation curriculum is a part of a multidisciplinary B.S. degree program that provides a strong foundation in design with supplemental courses in Strategic Communication, Social Media Management, and Multimedia Production.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

MFA in Graphic Design, New Media or related Studio Field or a Master’s Degree in Computer Science and demonstrable design skills awarded by the start date. We will consider applicants who are enrolled in an MFA program at the start date.

Proficiency in HTML, CSS, Javascript and an additional programming language (Python, Processing, Java, Swift)

Preferred attributes are:

Successful university-level teaching experience beyond graduate assistantships

Experience with physical computing processes, electronics, game design and development, etc.
Areas of expertise may include Web Design, Game Design, User Experience design, App development and other practices that incorporate digital design and technologies. The successful candidate will be conversant in various contemporary topics surrounding design and technology. The chosen candidate will have the opportunity to help craft and build this new online program.

Arkansas State, founded in 1909, is the second-largest university in the state. It is located on Crowley’s Ridge in Jonesboro, the largest city in eastern Arkansas and the economic hub of the region.
