Visiting Assistant Professor, French Horn
The School of Music at the University of Kentucky seeks a Visiting Assistant Professor of French Horn to join our outstanding brass faculty beginning August 2019.
Our new colleague will lead efforts to recruit undergraduate and graduate horn students and will teach horn majors, graduate students, and minors. Approximately three-quarters of this position's annual teaching load will be studio-based instruction, including a weekly studio class. The incumbent will also teach the high brass methods course and fill a new role as "instrumental methods coordinator," for which this person will supervise an instrumental music education methods course for Choral Music Education majors and work with the Choral Music Education Professor in the design and implementation of this new course. As part of their institutional service load, our new colleague will also perform with the faculty chamber ensembles in the woodwind and brass areas.
Faculty in the UK School of Music are expected to maintain a schedule of on- and off-campus performances and/or engage in research. Brass faculty members also assist with advising and graduate thesis committee work in their area. All faculty members in the School of Music participate in shared governance within the School of Music, the College of Fine Arts, and the University, as well as one's profession. Funding to support horn students includes undergraduate and graduate scholarships.
Applicants should hold the MM in performance (French Horn). Evidence of outstanding musical artistry and 1-3 years of college-level teaching is required, with both studio and classroom teaching experience preferred. A completed DMA degree is also preferred.
