Pay Grade:                 9 ($42,028-$56,533)

FLSA Status:             Exempt                      

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for the supervision and management of daily operations and activities in the Fitness Center and Gymnasium.  It reports to the Program Director, Health and Exercise Science.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:      

  • Oversees daily operations of the Fitness Center and Gymnasium
  • Maintains the Fitness Center and Gymnasium schedules for credit and noncredit classes, intramurals, employee fitness classes, student clubs and other activities
  • Recruits, trains and supervises student aides
  • Manages contract services for water delivery and equipment maintenance/repairs
  • Maintains inventory of all fitness equipment; orders replacement and new equipment as needed and approved by the Program Director
  • Performs student fitness assessments for Lifetime Fitness and Wellness courses
  • Provides fitness equipment orientations and training consultations to employees and students
  • Coordinates employee fitness classes and programs
  • Maintains outcomes on Fitness Center and Gymnasium usage, fitness orientations and training consultations, employee fitness classes and programs
  • Attends occupational safety, emergency preparedness and other college trainings
  • Perform other duties as assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science or Kinesiology
  • Current ACE or ACSM personal training certification
  • Current CPR, First Aid and AED certification
  • At least two years of fitness facility supervision and management experience
  • At least three years of personal training experience in a corporate or commercial fitness setting
  • Must demonstrate a positive and supportive personality, a strong work ethic, ability to supervise employees and manage many daily tasks

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Health Promotion or related field
  • ACE or ACSM Exercise Specialist or Exercise Physiologist certification and/or other fitness specialty certifications
  • Demonstrated ability to work with special populations including teens, adults, senior adults and individuals with special needs
  • Demonstrated teaching experience in a college setting

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The work is normally a fairly active position with physical exercise.Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:

WORK ENVIRONMENT:     

Work environment involves physical risk related to injuries that may occur during exercise in addition to everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office, meeting, and training rooms; use of safe work place practices with physical fitness and office equipment; computers for data entry and word processing; avoidance of trips and falls; observance of fire and building safety regulations; and observance of traffic signals when driving. Work hours may vary depending on classes and special events.

SALARY:

This position will be placed on the 12 month, Grade 9 college salary scale. Actual salary placement based on qualifications and experience. Position includes an excellent fringe benefit package. In order to qualify for employment, candidates must successfully complete a criminal background check.
