Position Summary: This is a 3 year time-limited position. This position is a Research Specialist in the Human Pluripotent Stem Cell Core in the School of Medicine. The facility is currently collaborating with 20+ laboratories throughout the UNC system, biotechnology companies in RTP and national laboratories. Therefore, the work pace is fast; projects have to be finished promptly and completed accurately. The Research Specialist will ideally have: -Extensive experience with human embryonic stem (hES) cell culture and generation of induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells from blood and fibroblast. Experience with directed stem cell differentiation to specific cell fates and trans-differentiation is also required. -Solid background in molecular biology techniques. Extensive experience in cellular and molecular assays, including quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) and reverse transcription qPCR (qRT-PCR), DNA and RNA sample preparation, flow cytometry, western blot and Immunofluorescence assays. Experience with genome editing technology including TALENs and CRISPR/Cas9. -Excellent organizational and analytical skills, including long-range planning with meticulous attention to detail, problem-solving skills, ability to identify future contingencies, and to effectively prioritize workload.
