Professional Research Asst

Job description

University of Colorado - School of Medicine

Professional Research Assistant

The University of Colorado Denver l Anschutz Medical Campus seeks individuals with demonstrated commitment to creating an inclusive learning and working environment. We value the ability to engage effectively with students, faculty and staff of diverse backgrounds.

The lab of Christopher Ford in the Department of Pharmacology has an opening for a full-time Professional Research Assistant to work at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora.

We are seeking a person to join our team researching the function of neural circuits within the basal ganglia that regulate goal-directed behaviors and encode reward. We employ a wide range of approaches that consist of functional imaging, conditional gene targeting, antero- and retro-grade viral circuit tracing, optogenetics and electrophysiology to interrogate the synapse and cell-type specific functional actions of dopamine and neuromodulators in basal ganglia circuits. We are interested in understanding the cellular, synaptic and circuit mechanisms by which dopamine and other neuromodulators are encoded in basal ganglia circuits as well as the dysfunctions that occur in drug addiction and Parkinson's Disease.

This position reports directly to the PI in the Department of Pharmacology. Working under general supervision, the primary responsibilities will be to maintain the lab's animal colony, perform genotyping, small animal surgeries (in vivo stereotaxic injections to manipulate gene expression with spatial resolution or functionally trace neural circuitry) and conduct experiments related to the research project. The lab's research is in the field of neuroscience and examines the cellular and synaptic mechanisms regulating neuronal circuits in the brain. We seek a bright, organized, energetic and motivated individual who is interested in exploring the very exciting science behind probing the circuit and synaptic function that drives reward and goal-directed behaviors.

Please provide a detailed cover letter explaining your suitability for the position along with your research experience and goals.
