Professional Research Assistant

The Division of Renal Diseases and Hypertension seeks a Professional Research Assistant to work on a preclinical project in polycystic kidney disease. The applicant will perform experiments using genetic mouse models of PKD to study the role of the innate and adaptive immune systems in mediating disease progression.

Examples of Work Performed

The work will entail breeding, handling, and dissecting mice, as well as managing a mouse colony. Experiments will further entail running Western blots, ELISA assays, qPCRs, and perform cell culture, and flow cytometry experiments. The PRA will also prepare and analyzing murine and human slides for histologic and immunofluorescent studies as well as perform ultrasound analyses in live animals to measure kidney size. The applicant will be involved in experimental design and data analyses. Approximately 25% of the PRA's time will be devoted to performing routine lab work such as ordering supplies, making solutions, organizing samples, and embedding murine tissue samples.

The PRA will not supervise any other individuals in the Hopp laboratory or Division.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent in a natural science related field

Preferred Qualifications

Laboratory experience in a basic/translational research laboratory

Experience with handling mice, mouse colony maintenance, dissections, or animal surgery

Experience with cell culture, molecular biology, and biochemical techniques

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, statistics, Microsoft Office
