Job Summary:

The Department of Pediatrics, Section of Critical Care as part of the University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus has an opening for a full-time Professional Research Assistant. This entry level PRA position is a research position with primary duties to conduct research. The successful candidate will work on a project investigating reactive oxygen species and antioxidants in pulmonary vascular diseases. The responsibilities include both animal handling and bench experiments.




Specific duties:

  • Animal injections/treatments, animal harvests;
  • Schedule and coordinate mice in hypoxic chambers and procedure room;
  • Assist other lab members and collaborators with animal work;
  • Perform basic laboratory studies including protein and RNA isolations, protein assay, western blot analysis, immunohistochemistry, elisa, qPCR, microscopy, cell cultures;
  • Proper maintenance of cart for animal work;
  • Proper tube labeling and sample handling;
  • Timely and proper disposal of carcasses;
  • Monitoring drugs/supplies used for animal studies and request replacements when low;
  • Monitor and refill pipette tips, consumables and shared solutions/buffers;
  • Was and autoclave dishware.


PLEASE NOTE: Candidates will be responsible for travel expenses related to the interview process and any relocation expenses, if applicable.

Salary and Benefits:

The hiring salary for this position is negotiable and commensurate with skills and experience. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • BS or BA degree in biology or related field.
  • Experience in Biomedical research.


Conditions of Employment:

  • Must successfully pass a 10-panel drug test through Children's Hospital Colorado.
  • Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal and sex-offender background check.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Laboratory experience beyond classroom laboratories.
  • Experience with animal models.
  • Experience with bench experiments.


Competencies - Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability and willingness to work with rodent models;
  • Ability to learn new mouse techniques as needed (i.e. retroorbital injections, IV injections);
  • Troubleshooting skills for new laboratory skills;
  • Ability to keep excellent records;
  • Organizational skills and attention to proper laboratory technique;
  • Ability to work collaboratively.
