Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

Minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible administrative work which includes student financial aid functions or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. Experience navigating complex regulatory requirements. Demonstrated strong organizational, analytical, detail, and communication skills. Willingness to participate around the School of Medicine and Public Health's statewide campus (Marshfield, Milwaukee, Green Bay) to serve students and staff in a wide geographic area. Preferred qualifications would be 4 years of progressively responsible work in a financial aid office with experience advising students and working in a fast paced environment.

Position Summary:

The Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) endeavors to generate, evaluate, and implement strategic initiatives that create sustainable, long-term improvements to the University of Wisconsin - Madison's financial aid programs and in alignment with OSFA's student-centric mission, vision, and goals. The Financial Aid Advisor is dedicated to serving customers of OSFA in alignment with the initiatives and efficient procedures of advising students. This position will serve as the financial aid liaison with the School of Medicine and Public Health, and will assist in ensuring all federal, state, NCAA, and institutional regulatory requirements are met. The Financial Aid Advisor also must continually strive to improve advising practices that serve students, their families, and the campus community. The Financial Aid Advisor will report to the Advising Coordinator and work in conjunction with the Advising Team. The Advising Team supports current student success and graduation as it relates to financial aid in partnership with various programs, schools, and colleges across campus. -Knowledge of federal, state, NCAA, and institutional financial aid regulatory requirements.
-Proven record of working with complex situations that require sensitivity to unique family circumstances.
-Excellent in providing and coaching others in professional, courteous, and tactful service delivery while establishing and maintaining harmonious and effective work relations with students, staff, faculty, and the general public.
-Knowledge or experience with distance technology (webinars, Skype, Google Hangout, Microsoft Teams, Zoom) and ability to communicate with students remotely outside of traditional business hours.
-Ability to effectively manage constituents that may have difficult financial aid queries and may be experiencing distress that could result in occasional confrontational situations.
-Ability to work under pressure.
-Ability to set priorities and manage multiple high-priority tasks simultaneously.
-Skill in the operation of standard office equipment and related software in a timely, accurate, and efficient manner.
-Ability to maintain the confidentiality of information.
-Knowledge or experience with the Wisconsin Medical Society (WMS) Foundation, the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) or other national or regional professional associations is preferred.
-Experience working with graduate/professional degree students, graduate medical education (GME), and research and trends regarding graduate/professional degree is preferred.
-Experience developing and delivering educational programs to a student audience is preferred.

In achievement and prestige, the University of Wisconsin–Madison has long been recognized as one of America's great universities.
