Posting Summary:
Kluge-Ruhe Museum at the University of Virginia is seeking a Visitor Services Specialist to act as the face of the Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Art Collection during public hours on Saturdays, Sundays and Thursday evenings. Candidates must be willing to work flexible rotating shifts day, weekends and nights.

Responsibilities for this position include; greet and educate visitors, answer phone calls, assist with weekend event setup, communicate with docents and other Kluge-Ruhe staff, lead tours of the museum, evaluate the visitor experience, promote museum special events and ensuring excellent visitor experience, open and close the museum, set security system, respond professionally to visitor needs, stock gift shop, manage inventory and processing sales, add Kluge-Ruhe events to community calendars, update website, proofread publications and museum text, draft social media posts and press releases.

Qualified applicants should have: customer service experience; ability to problem solve; critical thinking skills; ability to work independently; maintain consistent communication and support with team members; interest in gaining knowledge about Indigenous Australian art and sharing it with others.

The department is seeking to hire candidates to begin in Mid-January.

This is a wage position, which is not eligible for leave or other benefits and is limited to 1500 hours of work in a year. For more information, refer to the Wage Employment link:

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to communicate effectively with diverse audiences; attention to detail, policies and procedures; self-motivated and independent; able to easily learn new technologies; curious, explorative, empathetic, socially aware and interested in arts and culture; possess a high ability to multi-task and to adapt to unexpected circumstances; able to lift up to 30 pounds. Experience teaching or conducting research is preferred. Must have weekend availability; 10 of the 10-15 hours are on Saturday and Sunday
