The Department of Chemistry at the University of Virginia invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate, who is excited about the opportunity to work in a dynamic and collaborative research environment. The successful candidate will participate in research in the Lehmann and Pate lab developing new measurement techniques for the detection of trace species and for chiral analysis using molecular rotational spectroscopy.
Requirements for the position include the completion of a Ph.D. degree in Physical Chemistry by the appointment start date. The candidate must have a working knowledge of gas phase molecular spectroscopy, molecular beams, vacuum technology, optics, and lasers. Preference will be given to candidates with experience building or improving custom instruments for molecular spectroscopy, including experience with CAD software, laser alignment and diagnostics, and low voltage electronic circuit design and troubleshooting. The candidate must have effective oral and written communication skills. The candidate is also expected to maintain a safe lab culture, write research papers and grants, and help mentor undergraduates and graduate students in the laboratory.
This is a one-year appointment; however, appointment may be renewed for an additional year contingent upon available funding and satisfactory performance.
