JOB DETAILS:

POSITION: A full-time, professional academic staff position is available in the Center for International Education beginning January 7, 2019. The working title for this assignment is Study Abroad Adviser with an official title in the Student Services Coordinator title series. This is a renewable assignment, contingent on performance and funding. The salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Demonstrated understanding of study abroad programs
  • Demonstrated student-centered attitude and behavior
  • Excellent communication skills including written, interpersonal, and oral presentations to small and large groups
  • Ability to multi-task, organize and prioritize in a team-oriented environment
  • US citizen or permanent resident

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience with student and/or academic advising
  • Leadership and/or supervisory experience
  • Computer proficiency, including knowledge of Microsoft Office products,
  • Familiar with managing a social media platform for marketing or other branded communication
  • Ability to bring diverse perspectives to campus

DUTIES: This entry-level study abroad advisor position involves advising and promotions. Some nights and weekend work will be required. Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Advising: provide advising, referral and information services, in the CIE and other partner offices, for students interested in studying abroad; develop departmental advising sheets; manage the general email account
  • Promotions: facilitate the international classroom speaker program; oversee distribution of e-newsletters; oversee social media platforms; coordinate info session planning and lead presentations; coordinate the annual photo contest; assist with study abroad fair as needed; develop short how-to and advising videos
  • Supervision: train and supervise general advising intern(s), peer advisor program and social media intern; coordinate application, interviews and hiring process for positions
  • Orientation: assist study abroad coordinators in logistical planning and facilitation of orientation
  • Scholarships: advise students regarding scholarships (essay preparation, applications, etc.); manage UWEC scholarships
  • Re-Entry: Assist with re-entry support and events; arrange volunteers for recruitment and pre-departure events
  • University relations: collaborate with offices and committees on campus to promote study abroad for all students; coordinate representation at, and participate in, university sponsored events
  • Forms processing: assist with processing application materials; provide visa application support; back-up for sending forms to partners

THE UNIT: The Center for International Education (CIE) consists of nine highly dedicated staff members with two primary purposes- study abroad advising/coordination and international student/scholar services. The study abroad division of the CIE facilitates study abroad experiences for approximately 300-350 students each year and has been recognized twice by the Institute for International Education for innovative programming with Andrew Heiskell awards. UW-Eau Claire regularly appears in the Open Doors leading institutions rankings at the master’s level for total number of students abroad. UW-Eau Claire is also a member of the Forum on Education Abroad, the official U.S. Department of Justice standards-setting organization for education abroad. The Center for International Education study abroad section was recognized in February 2017 for meeting the Forum’s Standards of Good Practice, the first public institution to receive such recognition, and ascribes to the Forum's Code of Ethics .
