The incumbent is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operational functions of the College's residence facilities housing 4,500 students. Specific duties include supervision of the summer conference housing operations and program, including the direct supervision of the summer conference housing Residence Director; coordination of residence hall health and safety checks; monitoring and prioritizing mover and maintenance requests; overseeing the room inspection and damage billing process; managing furniture inventory and assessing new initiatives. Coordinate special Residential Life events including Commencement housing, early arrivals, all closing and openings, break housing, and Senior Week. Participate on the Management Team responsible for the overall planning and management for the entire Residence Hall System. Provide general assistance to the Director and the Assistant Director for Operations.
Position/Job Responsibilities
1. Participates as a member of Management Team responsible for setting the future direction for the Office of Residential Life. Set long and short-term goals and establish office policies/procedures.
2. Responsible for the set-up and day-to-day operations of the summer housing office. Supervise, train and evaluate the Residence Director serving in the Summer Conference Housing position and summer housing student staff.
3. Coordinate Residential Life operations for processes including Early Arrival, Senior Week, Commencement housing and break periods; supervise personnel assigned to these areas.
4. Coordinate and supervise all break opening and closings of College residence halls and apartments, and emergency housing.
5. Develop, demonstrate, and promote multicultural awareness and contribute to cultivating an inclusive, diverse and respectful College community. Demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion as a college priority, communicate to employees an expectation of behavior that is civil and inclusive when interacting with all staff, faculty, students and visitors and promote a flexible, collaborative and inclusive work and living environment.
6. Oversee and administer Residential Life damage billing process, damage charges, and related budgets. Oversee contractors' work quality and completion. Attend job meetings; assist with punch lists.
7. Oversee the academic year room inspection process, and supervise student Operations Assistants.
8. Oversee the administration of health and safety checks, including break room checks and the annual New York State fire checks.
9. Oversee, monitor, and prioritize mover/maintenance request procedures during the academic year.
10. Respond to all inquiries, problems and complaints from students, staff and parents. Be available and respond to emergencies in the area as needed.
11. Maintain liaison relationships with Office of Facilities, Environmental Health and Safety, Information Technology, and Conference and Event Services, Purchasing, and outside vendors.
12. Coordinate the arrangements for temporary housing.
13. Oversee on-going assessment initiatives regarding student satisfaction with residential facilities.
14. Assist in Residential Life programming and publication efforts for students and parents to increase their awareness of residence hall living.
15. Plan and present Resident Assistant and Professional Staff Training sessions.
16. Coordinate access for conference groups and Ithaca College students living on campus over the summer.
17. Serve in an "on-call" duty rotation for all summer housing residence halls and apartments on a scheduled basis. Work with summer housing assistants and resident assistants, Public Safety officers, and Residential Life Management Team to respond to crisis situations in accordance with departmental and institutional emergency procedures.
18. Serve as a member of the Summer Planning Group.
19. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Position/Job Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 3 years of residential life/housing or facilities management experience; excellent organizational, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills; ability to cultivate an inclusive, diverse and welcoming environment; ability to treat all people equitably and with a sensitivity and awareness to cultural difference; demonstrated ability to hold others accountable for behavior that is supportive of a community that is diverse and inclusive required. A master's degree in higher education or related field preferred.
