The Senior Learning and Development Specialist will be responsible for the overall strategic design, development and implementation of employee learning and development solutions at the institution. Reporting directly to the Associate Vice President of Human Resources, this role will manage the strategic build and delivery of the learning and development design and delivery process. This includes analyzing the institution's needs, driving learning recommendations to meet these needs, and evaluating the effectiveness. This position is a hands on position that will be involved in building courses and classroom delivery. The position plays a key role in supporting the successful growth and development of the expanding HR service platform including initiatives that help set the foundation for a supportive positive culture. The core of this position requires a highly motivated, positive and proactive person who embraces the opportunity to help grow an institution where innovation, creativity and inspiration meet.


  • Develop, manage and publish a course catalog and annual calendar of learning and development offerings.
  • Identify learning and development needs within organization through gap analysis, appraisal schemes and regular consultation with business managers and human resources staff.
  • Plan, develop, and provide staff development programs, using knowledge of the effectiveness of methods such as classroom training, demonstrations, on-the-job training, meetings, conferences, and workshops.
  • Confer with management to identify the learning needs based on upcoming projects, processes, and other factors that may affect the performance of the staff.
  • Develop course content and supporting job aids into appropriate media; including, but not limited to, PowerPoint presentations, Word documents, and e-learning modules.
  • Facilitate learning using a variety of instructional techniques and formats such as simulations, team exercises, group discussions, videos, and interactive lectures.
  • Oversee the roll-out and regular monitoring of training needs analysis across campus to identify development needs.
  • Prepare and manage L&D budget.
  • Collaborate with Associate Vice President and HR team on development and implementation of scalable HR initiatives and solutions in support of GGC's strategic priorities.
  • Assist with organizational development initiatives, such as on-boarding and employee engagement.
  • Apply tools to measure learning solution effectiveness and its impact on performance.
  • Oversee the tracking and reporting of compliance training courses.
  • Assess learning requirements and develop learning programs to meet career development needs.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of L&D policies.
  • Encourage open communications and promote a positive work environment embracing the College's vision, mission and operating principles; Serve as champion with initiatives designed to develop and sustain GGC's culture.
  • Partner with other HR team members to support and develop efficient, standardized departmental processes and procedures; Recommend new approaches/procedures to effect continual improvement of services performed
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned.

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Five or more years of measurable success in field of training, including learning administration, course design and development and adult education/learning styles.
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for curricula and training design.
  • Knowledge of best practices in learning and development.
  • Specific knowledge and experience in the software and technologies used in the creation and delivery of online courses.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Working knowledge of current and emerging training tools and learning aids.
  • Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize workloads, and the flexibility to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication skills, a collaborative nature, and the ability to work in a cross-team environment.
  • Ability to understand, quickly react and motivate others to adapt to the changing organization environment is a critical key to success.
  • Proven ability to establish ownership and drive assigned initiatives through to completion on time; meeting or exceeding expectations.
  • Must maintain extreme confidentiality of employee and institution records.
  • Great communication and interpersonal skills; including demonstrated ability to build consensus and establish trust; outgoing personality.
  • Superior customer service skills.
  • Solid organizational and prioritization skills including proven attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated, hard-working, and eager to learn.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Good working knowledge and understanding of eLearning development software (i.e. Adobe Captivate, Camtasia, Adobe Creative Suite 6)
  • Prior experience with Skillsoft LMS preferred
  • Prior experience in a growth environment strongly preferred

Position may require local travel. Ability to lift and carry files and materials. Ability to move from one office to another office on campus.
