This position provides administrative and academic program support for the High-Performance Materials Institute (HPMI), Materials Science and Engineering (MS&E) Ph.D. program, and the Advanced Materials Cluster.
Coordinates HPMI activities with the leadership team: coordinates research projects, student presentations, invited seminars, tours, etc.; coordinates maintenance and services of the Materials Research Building; provides assistance for enforcing Environmental Health and Safety policies and procedures; and coordinates appointment paperwork and track productivity of HPMI students and postdoctoral researchers.
Serves as point of contact for incoming requests of HPMI leadership team; communicates with HPMI constituents; serves as communication liaison.
Monitors status of all Material Science and Engineering (MS&E) students, communicates/coordinates with Graduate School, and maintains files of students academic records. Guides and assists MS&E graduate students regarding program related administrative issues.
Works with MS&E Program Director on student recruitment, application and enrollment; coordinates with MS&E Program Director to ensure that all program metrics are captured, documented and reported.
Participates in long- and short-term planning for HPMI; Assists in HPMI task reporting requirements to university; Prepares appointment paperwork for all first year MS&E PhD students; Coordinates with MS&E students' home departments and the Graduate School regarding tuition waivers; Carries out other responsibilities that are needed by HPMI or the MS&E program.
Bachelor's degree and four years experience, or combination of post high school education and experience equal to eight years.
Knowledge of principles and practices of academic program planning, development, and evaluation.
Ability to interpret graduate academic program requirements and provide advice.
Office management experience, to include knowledge of office practices, procedures, and etiquette.
Human Resource experience with knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply related University policies, procedures, principles, and practices.
Knowledge of the concepts, principles, and practices of accounting, budgeting, and preparation of financial reports.
Ability to prepare, coordinate, and conduct workshops.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply related University policies, procedures, principles, and practices.
Knowledge of applicable computer applications and basic computer functions.
Ability to prioritize and organize work assignments.
This is an A&P (Administrative and Professional) position.
If not otherwise specified, schedule is M-F, 8-5.
