Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
Fayetteville State University’s Office of College Access Programs is designed to provide low-income/potential first-generation college students (enrolled in grades 6-12) with academic support services that will enhance their academic skills, thereby ensuring that these students will complete high school and enroll in and complete programs of postsecondary education.
The mission of GEAR UP is to prepare middle and high school students for college through academic preparation programs and scholarships for students, professional development activities for educators, and college access information for students and parents. A total of 1,500 students are served by the GEAR UP Program in Cumberland County at eight target schools.Description of Work Continued::
GEAR UP’s Student Pool provides support to the college access program. Positions vary according to the needs of the program throughout the year.

- Residential Summer Staff
Undergraduate students taking at least twelve (12) semester hours or graduate students taking at least nine (9) semester hours are considered full-time students and are therefore unable to work more than 20 hours per week total. This provision includes any job in which the student receives compensation from Fayetteville State University.
