Job Description:

The Department of the Arts at the American University in Cairo, a liberal arts university, is searching to fill a full-time position in Visual Arts beginning in Fall 2019. The successful applicant will be required to teach 6 undergraduate courses per academic year (3 courses per semester). The position also carries administrative and service responsibilities at the department and university level.

The successful candidate will have an active research record and a demonstrated commitment to engaging with historical, theoretical, contemporary, and critical issues in art. We are interested in seeing evidence of experimental pedagogies in teaching. Applicants should also display evidence of good interpersonal and communication skills and an interest in leadership opportunities. Preference will be given to candidates with experience with curriculum development.


Requirements:

The position requires a PhD and 5 years of experience in teaching/researching Art History and Theory Practices. We are seeking candidates with an accomplished research practice on an international level, and a track record of successful teaching for at least 5 years in a post-secondary environment. The candidate will teach Introduction to Visual Cultures, Contemporary Arab Art History, Art Theory, Practices of Art History (I+II), Art and Philosophy, and contribute to the development of the current visual arts program.
