The Department of Neurology has an opening for a full time Professional Research Assistant (Clinical Research Coordinator) to coordinate a longitudinal observational study at the Rocky Mountain Alzheimer's Disease Center. This is a new research study focused on the role of immune dysfunction in cognitive aging outcomes, and will entail recruitment of a new cohort of older adults.

The position is located at the Anschutz Medical Campus. Hours are usually 8:00 to 5:00 weekdays, but occasionally longer hours are required, depending on participant volume and schedules. We are the premier research university in Colorado, serving more than 30,000 undergraduate, graduate and health professions students in Denver, Aurora and online and awarding nearly 4,000 degrees each year. The renowned researchers and award-winning faculty offer more than 100 degree programs through 13 colleges and schools. In 2008 the University was awarded more than $371 million in research grants and contracts. The Anschutz Medical Campus includes over 5 million square feet of research, educational and clinical space on 227 acres.

Study Title: Study Title: Investigating the Contribution of Peripheral versus Central Nervous System Immune Dysfunction to Cognitive Aging

Job Responsibilities

Duties include (but are not limited to) performing the following skills: coordinating clinical research visits and data collection for healthy older adults; participating in and overseeing study implementation activities such as recruitment and prescreening; tracking and reporting study and participant enrollment efforts and status; completing source documentation; participating in data entry and quality assurance activities; obtaining extensive medical history in person and over the phone; managing research MRI appointments; scheduling and managing visits for participants; conducting and scoring research cognitive and health assessments; working and collaborating with physicians, medical staff, and research staff; attending Alzheimer's Disease Center team meetings and Neurology clinical research coordinator meetings. The PRA is responsible for following department standard operating procedures (SOPs), research regulations, assigned protocol(s), and applying best research practices, such as good clinical practice (GCP) to all research activities.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Position requires at least a bachelor's degree in biological science or psychology. Interest in working with the aging population is required, and 6 months patient contact in a health care setting or human subjects research is required. An interest in administering cognitive assessments to research participants is required. Applicants must be comfortable speaking to participants over the phone. Applicants must have outstanding interpersonal skills, great attention to detail, the ability to work with colleagues and patients in a confidential and professional manner, experience with web-based tracking systems and Microsoft Office programs (i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access), and must be able to work well independently as well as within a larger team. This position requires excellent administrative and organizational skills. The position requires the ability to follow department SOPs, the research protocol(s), research regulations, and best research practices, such as GCP, for all research activities.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with older adults; background in Neuroscience; experience administering cognitive tests in research setting; experience with study recruitment; managing imaging (MRI) appointments).
