NATURE OF WORK

The Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes at the University of Colorado at Denver, Anschutz Medical Campus is a multi-disciplinary diabetes center affiliated with The Children's Hospital of Colorado as well as the University of Colorado, School of Medicine. The patient population is primarily children with type 1 diabetes, but also includes youth with type 2 diabetes. In addition to the clinical program, the Barbara Davis Center has a large basic research program allowing many ongoing educational opportunities. This Diabetes Educator position is an at-will faculty appointment. This position will provide diabetes care to newly diagnosed and established children who have Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes. This certified diabetes educator will develop, facilitate implementation and evaluate care management plans for patients with complex health needs by providing leadership that facilitates the ongoing development of clinical practice in pediatric diabetes. This appointment will involve approximately 100% clinical work.



SUPERVISION RECEIVED

This position formally reports to the charge nurse, Theresa Cox, RN.

No supervision of others is required for this position

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    The position serves as a Certified Diabetes Educator at the Instructor level. Duties include but are not limited to the following:
    Provide diabetes care to newly diagnosed and established children with
    Diabetes Education and case management for children who have type 1 and type 2 diabetes Phone consultations with patients and other nurses, advanced practice nurses, physician assistants and physicians in the community.
    Determines appropriate options in resolving complicated inquiries and/or issues related to diabetes management
    Contribute to new and ongoing diabetes clinical research protocols
    Computer charting/data entry.
    Educate patient, families and extended families in diabetes management.
    Maintain high standards of existing diabetes program


SALARY AND BENEFITS

The salary range for this position is $50,000 - $75,000 and based on qualifications and experience. The University of Colorado offers a full benefits package. Information on University benefits programs, including eligibility, is located at Employee Services.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Master of Public Health

Certified Diabetes Educator

Must have at least 8 years' experience as a Certified Diabetes Educator

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION

Priority will be given to someone with experience in childhood diabetes and with a Certificate in Diabetes Education from the National Board for Diabetes Educators
