Working Title: Finance Coordinator
Position Type: University Operational and Administrative Staff
Department: Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs
Posting Date: 10-16-2018
The University of Virginia's Division of Student Affairs is seeking a motivated and creative self-starter to be its new Finance Coordinator. The Division promotes the intellectual, cultural, personal, and social development of students while enhancing their physical and psychological well-being.
Student Affairs is transforming the way it creates budgets, analyzes data, and pairs finance with strategy. As part of this transformation, the Finance Coordinator will be located in the UVA Career Center (UCC), representing the Student Affairs finance team. Specializing in financial transactions, reconciliations, budget tracking, expense approval, and monthly financial reporting, the Coordinator reports to the Director of Finance. The incumbent is part of a finance team that has an exploratory mindset that sees data as a way to find answers. It is crucial that the Finance Coordinator build strong, collaborative relationships with UCC colleagues and be committed to the Student Affairs core values of academic rigor, honor, student self-governance, public service, diversity and multiculturalism, and health and wellness.
Acting as the finance and procurement expert, the Finance Coordinator's responsibilities include, but are not limited to: preparing accounts and reconciliations; approving expense reports and processing payment vouchers and POs; ensuring compliance with University and state requirements; and managing accounts receivable activities. In addition, the Coordinator works collaboratively to align budgets to long range planning assumptions and collaborates across Student Affairs on data projects to look at a subject from many different angles. Working closely with the Director of Finance, the incumbent helps prepare the annual UCC budget and is responsible for other special projects and duties as assigned by senior leadership.
A high school diploma is required, as is four or more years of relevant professional experience. Experience with financial reconciliations is essential, as is the ability to effectively process financial transactions. The ability to conduct independent research and approach data inquisitively is required, as is the ability to collaboratively communicate with stakeholders. Attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast paced work environment is also required. Proficiency in Excel is required, and confidence with databases/reporting tools is a must. Preference will be given to candidates with exceptional oral and written communication skills, excellent organization, and to those with the proven ability to think and act both strategically and tactfully.
