Posting Summary:
The UVA Center for Politics seeks a Coordinator of Media Relations. This role serves as the main point of contact at the UVA Center for Politics in managing a wide-variety of communications related to politics in Virginia; coordinates, with the Center Director and Managing Editor of the Crystal Ball the weekly publication; coordinates with Center staff the development and execution of press releases as they relate to Center events and activities; proactively manages media relations as they relate to local and state political inquiries and maintains an established network of external communications relationships with both local and state media outlets. Performs political analysis and interpretation, and authors or contributes to published information for the expert and the generalist audience.

A bachelor's degree in American Politics, Government, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field, is required. At least three years of prior experience managing communications and media in support of organizational goals, prior demonstrated success developing and maintaining media relationships with networks, and experience and comfort representing an organization in public appearances are all required. The successful incumbent has experience analyzing political data and translating conclusions tailored to the target audience, as well as experience authoring for print and online publications, and managing and coordinating logistics with internal and external constituents.

The ability to collect, verify and analyze data using database applications, and the ability to prepare statistical reports, manage projects, author and proofread documents so that messages are error proof, clear and consistently representative of the organizations standards, are all required skills. The successful incumbent demonstrates ability using HTML and CSS programming, website design using human interface methodology and maintenance, and the ability to represent the Center's mission and respectfully engage with a diverse constituent base.

Five or more years managing local, national and international media relationships, and experience with quantitative analysis tools such as R and Stata, are preferred.
