Primary Function of Organization Unit: The NCSU Libraries serves as the gateway to recorded knowledge and information for the NC State community and its partners, offering a competitive advantage in attracting and retaining the best faculty and students to the university. The Collections & Research Strategy department focuses on deep integration with the university community, working closely with faculty and students and using data and analytics creatively to develop and manage collections aligned with the strengths of the university. Librarians in Collections & Research Strategy collaborate with faculty and students across the life-cycle of learning and research, linking high-quality content with emerging tools and technologies. In support of the Chancellor's Faculty Excellence Program, a university initiative that brings faculty members from multiple disciplines together to address the grand challenges of society, librarians in the department serve as liaisons to one or more of the program's clusters, along with their other liaison roles. Essential Job Duties: The Collections and Research Librarian for Humanities, Social Sciences and Digital Media will be responsible for: * Leading collaborative collection management in the social sciences and humanities * Coordinating and managing the portfolio of digital media collections including video, audio, images, games, and streaming content * Providing expert services for faculty, staff, and students in core and emerging areas of scholarship, such as digital scholarship, digital humanities, and bibliometric analysis * Serving as liaison with assigned departments, centers, and clusters * Fostering collaboration and interdisciplinary interactions among faculty and research teams * Participating in ongoing collection assessment and collection management activities * Working closely with library colleagues to provide consultation on the use of digital media tools, services, and spaces * Participating in library planning, serving on library-wide committees, task forces, and teams * Being active professionally and contributing to developments in the field
Minimum Education/Experience: ALA-accredited MLS, MIS, or equivalent advanced degree in library or information science
Department Required Skills: * Understanding of teaching, learning, and research needs in the humanities and/or social sciences * Experience with collection development * Analytical and creative problem-solving abilities * Commitment to fostering a diverse educational and professional environment and demonstration of the ability to work with a diverse population * Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing * Ability to work independently and in a team environment * Evidence of potential for ongoing professional development and contribution
