Duties: Li-San Wang's lab and the Penn Neurodegeneration Genomics Center are hiring a Senior Research Investigator (SRI) to develop a comprehensive genomics and population health data collection for Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders (ADRD) research. The SRI will take scientific lead to develop the data collection from various sources for ADRD genetics, genomics, and health economics and population health research. Working independently, the SRI will also analyze these data to identify genetic risks and biological pathways of ADRD using data mining, machine learning, and artificial intelligence algorithms. Example data sources include human genetic, phenotypic, and functional genomic data, genome annotations and other biological knowledge; population surveys and biobank data; datasets for health/socioeconomic and public policy research, and other relevant datasets. The SRI will take scientific lead and work with a team of data managers, programmers, research coordinators and collaborating scientists to (1) interface with research collaborators to identify scientific strategies and respond to data needs; (2) survey relevant literature and data sources for relevant datasets; (3) acquire, reformat and manage datasets into a high quality, easily accessible data collection on a secure, shared cloud environment; (4) develop databases, meta-data, workflows, and tools to facilitate analysts in linking and analyzing these data.
The SRI will also analyze these data to identify genetic risks and biological pathways of ADRD using data mining, machine learning, and artificial intelligence algorithms. The SRI will contribute to writing/reviewing manuscripts and grants, preparing presentations, establishing collaborations as well as writing/reviewing protocols and SOPs.
Qualifications: PhD and a combined 5 years of experience in the field of molecular biology, bioinformatics, genetics/genomics, health economics, public health, or related fields. Interdisciplinary knowledge and experience in human genetics, genomics, bioinformatics, and modern data science technology such as R, Python and Spark required. Knowledge and track record in neurodegenerative disorder research optional and strongly preferred. The successful candidate must thrive in a team environment, have excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment, and proficiency with standard methods of big data integration, management and analyses.

Vision
As engines of knowledge and new ideas, universities have the unique potential to define the future rather than be defined by it; to pioneer change rather than merely manage it. To do so requires a plan both visionary and pragmatic. The Penn Compact 2022 motivates community members to innovate, be radically inclusive, and positively impact their local, national, and global communities.
Penn’s fundamental priorities — increasing access, integrating knowledge and engaging locally, nationally and globally — are supported by the three core values that make us uniquely Penn: inclusion, innovation, and impact.
