Position Description: The University of Northern Iowa's College of Humanities, Arts and Sciences invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Music in Composition and Theory. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in the core music theory sequence (including freshman and sophomore theory, sight singing and aural training), applied composition, courses in composition-related technologies, and other undergraduate or graduate analysis, orchestration or counterpoint courses in the music theory and composition curriculum appropriate to the candidate's expertise and the needs of the school. The Assistant Professor of Music in Composition and Theory will be expected to maintain knowledge of trends in music theory pedagogy as well as develop and maintain a notable professional composing career that indicates continuing growth and national/international visibility. Service expectations include recruitment and advisement of undergraduate and graduate composition majors, participation on graduate committees, full participation on other School of Music Committees and service at the College and University level as appropriate.

Education Requirements: Doctorate degree in composition required. Coursework must include eighteen hours of graduate study in music theory or music theory pedagogy.
Required Qualification: Required qualifications include ability to teach multiple compositional styles; teaching experience in music theory at the college/university level; demonstrated commitment to mentoring undergraduates in the development of musicianship skills; demonstrated effectiveness with composition- and/or performance-related technologies; and ability to teach a variety of aspects of music technology at many levels.
Desirable Qualifications: Preferred qualifications include two years or more full-time teaching experience in an accredited university or college and film or music for electronic media as part of the composition portfolio.
