The Robert M. Berne Cardiovascular Research Center (CVRC) at the University of Virginia is seeking a PhD-trained Research Associate to conduct studies of mechanisms that regulate the pathogenesis of late stage atherosclerotic lesions. A particular emphasis will be to determine mechanisms that control calcification of lesions including phenotypic transitions of vascular smooth muscle cells to osteogenic type cells. The work will involve designing, carrying out and analyzing experiments, as well as publishing results in high impact journal publications.
Applicants must have a PhD, MD, or equivalent degree by the start date as well as excellent written and oral communication skills, with demonstrated ability to present experimental results. Eligibility for NIH post-doctoral fellowship funding is helpful, but not mandatory.
