The Democracy Initiative and the College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences invites applications for a Chief of Staff for the Democracy Initiative. This exciting and ambitious new program is an interdisciplinary teaching, research and engagement effort bringing together a diverse range of scholars, government leaders and practitioners to study and advance the prospects of democracy around the world. The Chief of Staff reports directly to the Co-Directors and has an indirect relationship with the Dean's Office in the College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and The Miller Center. The successful candidate will be able to think and plan strategically, maintain confidentiality, demonstrate strong personal and professional integrity, collaborate, and provide good judgment and attention to detail. Responsibilities include but are not limited to preparing materials for executive level meetings; research and preparing information for presentations and remarks; coordination of reporting of strategic initiatives and plans with senior staff; preparation of senior staff notes and all high- level correspondence for the Democracy Initiative; working with the Co-Directors to build and maintain external partnerships with non-profit and private sector entities. The selected candidate will be highly involved in the planning and operations of newly developed "democracy labs" which are specific thematic projects within the initiative undertaken by research teams of faculty and students.
This position requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in business, communications, or related field; master's degree is preferred and multi-sector experience will be highly valued. Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, have strong communication and organizational skills, have the ability to collaborate to get to positive outcomes, and lead through influencing others. The ability to travel is required, as well as occasional evening and weekend work.
