Posting Information: Live and teach just minutes away from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Blue Ridge Parkway at Western Carolina University. The Department of Communication at Western Carolina University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor of communication and television broadcasting for fall 2019. Western Carolina University is part of the University of North Carolina system. Located in Cullowhee, NC, WCU is situated in a beautiful valley of the Blue Ridge Mountains, 52 miles west of Asheville and near the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. From its 600-acre main campus, through programs in Asheville, at various community colleges and online, WCU serves approximately 11,000 students. The university television studio was designed, built, and is under a service contract from Sony. The studio has undergone an over one million-dollar HD upgrade. The Department of Communication is known for its engaged teaching and learning, and encourages students to produce content that is publishable or can be entered in competitions. Duties include teaching undergraduate courses in television broadcasting and communication. Additional duties include: *engaging in scholarship, *advising broadcasting students *assisting in equipment management and studio operations *and departmental, institutional, and regional service. Minimum Training & Experience Requirements: PhD in Communication or closely related field (ABD or MFA considered).
Preferred Qualifications: A track record of working with students to produce television programs and programming, professional television broadcast production and content creation experience are highly desirable. Expertise in internet distribution, social media, and new technology are highly desirable.
