Duke Department of Medicine - Nephrology Division Administrator

The Nephrology Division Administrator (DA) serves as the administrative leader and senior management advisor to the Division Chief. The primary responsibilities of this position are to generate, manage, and interpret strategic information; provide financial management and accountability for all Division resources; and to provide administrative infrastructure for faculty, staff and trainees. These responsibilities cover each of the Division's primary missions of patient care, teaching, and research. The DA is responsible for all administrative operations of the Division as described below. This role is dynamic, providing administrative leadership in multiple Duke entities beyond the Division, including the School of Medicine (SOM), Duke University Health System (DUHS), Patient Revenue Management Organization (PRMO), and the Private Diagnostic Clinic (PDC). The position reports directly to the Division Chief and to the DoM Vice Chair, Administration.

This position is extremely important to the Division's long-term success and includes active leadership of and engagement throughout the strategic planning activities for the Division.

Primary Responsibilities include the following:
  • Oversight of all operational activity in the division, including, responsibility for the administrative management of clinical programs that are significant in value and reputation to Duke University Health System and the Private Diagnostic Clinic.
  • Oversight of the Division's research portfolio, which includes multiple clinical trials and basic science labs. Its research programs are one of the hallmarks of its success.
  • Oversight of the division's complex budget, including, strategically managing financial resources for the Division to achieve optimal utilization, including financial planning, budgeting, and accounting functions of the academic and medical service units.
  • Oversight and general management of the division, including the following: administrative aspects of faculty appointment, promotion/tenure, and non-renewal processes; ensuring Divisional employment activities and practices are in compliance with DoM and/or Duke University or Health System; and developing a functional space plan for the division and coordinating the support services necessary to ensure the operation of the Division's facilities.

Education

Work requires a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting or a closely related field.

Experience

Work requires a minimum of eight years progressively responsible experience in administrative management, to include proficiency in budgeting, grants and contracts, personnel supervision and space and facilities management. A Master's degree in Business Administration, Hospital Administration, Accounting or a closely related field may substitute for two years of required experience. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
