Occupational Summary

Perform a variety of complex technical duties involved in conducting the maintenance of rodent colonies, laboratory tests, and experiments.

Work Performed
  • Daily maintenance and related record keeping of rodent colonies.
  • Determine and set up instruments, material and apparatus and operate laboratory equipment required for specific tests.
  • Perform specific genetic tests in the laboratory for genotype determination, with deposition of results into shared databases.
  • Assist in surgical procedures and post-mortem analysis that may involve the preparation and analysis of tissue and blood.
  • Train other laboratory personnel in established protocols with respect to best practices in animal maintenance and genotyping.

Strongly Preferred Qualifications: previous laboratory work with mice or rats. Essential Physical Job Functions: Rodent handling, including temporarily restraining rats up to 500 grams in weight.
