Position Description

The College of Charleston Department of Geology and Environmental Geosciences ( is accepting applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank to begin in August 2019. The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in the Geosciences or closely-related field with teaching experience and research activity in paleobiology that complement our existing strengths. The candidate must be able to teach Earth History, Honors Geology, Paleobiology, one or more courses in their field of specialty, and mentor student research. We are interested in applicants with field research who will teach a paleontology field course. The candidate is expected to develop his/her own research program and to seek external funds to support their research activities, with relevant fields being vertebrate or invertebrate paleobiology, paleoecology, response of organisms to global climate variability through time, evolution, and/or taphonomy. The candidate must also be able to serve as Curator of the Mace Brown Museum of Natural History at the College of Charleston by demonstrating evidence of past curation, collections management, using collection specimens in their research, and/or museum experience, and must have excellent communication skills in order to work with donors and the public.
