About the Unit
The position is for conducting and leading scientific research in projects related to Data Science for Public Policy. The goal is to develop data science methods and tools to solve large-scale problems with social impact, and to lead teams working on data science projects with governments and non-profits. Responsibilities include defining new research directions, scoping and defining new projects, managing projects, coordinating with external partners, managing post-docs, students and other researchers, conducting research, helping identify funding opportunities and writing grant proposals. Candidates need to have a PhD in a computational and/or quantitative field and experience with data science and applying those techniques to problems with social impact and public policy in particular in collaboration with governments and non-profits across different policy areas.
- Help create and define new projects
- Conduct data science projects across different policy areas in collaboration with governments and non-profits
- Build data science tools needed to tackle policy problems
- Help create curriculum and deliver trainings and workshops to train students and government agencies in the use of data for policy
- Manage students and researchers in doing data science projects
- Perform data science research to investigate and develop new approaches and methods that are necessary in solving policy problems.

Education, Experience, and Certifications:
- PhD in a related field in computational, physical or social sciences required.
- Experience defining, scoping, working on, and delivering data science projects
- Experience leading teams working on data science across policy areas required.
- Experience working on data science projects in collaboration with government agencies and non-profits required.
Technical Knowledge or Skills:
- Knowledge and skills developed through 7+ years of work experience in a related job discipline required
