Job Details
The primary responsibility of a faculty member in the Virginia Community College System shall be to provide quality instruction for the students. The major emphasis shall be on good teaching by working with students in classrooms, individual conferences, and related activities—to help the student develop their interests and abilities to their fullest capacity to become a better person, a better worker, and a better citizen.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesFull-time teaching faculty members are responsible for teaching various courses in Art History. Courses are offered in traditional and hybrid formats. All faculty members must be available to teach day, evening and weekend classes. Faculty members also serve as faculty advisers, serve on division/campus/college committees and participate in curriculum development and assessment. The position is available for one academic year starting the 2019-2020 academic year. This is an entry-level appointment with a normal teaching load of 15 credits per semester.
Minimum QualificationsMaster’s Degree in Art History or a Master’s with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching field. The successful candidate must be qualified to teach Art History courses. College level teaching experience and/or relevant work experience.
Preferred QualificationsSpecialization in non-western art history. Experience teaching at a two-year college. Experience developing curriculum. Experience teaching in hybrid and online formats. Experience teaching students from diverse language backgrounds and various levels of proficiency in art history. Demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively and in service of the college mission and academic discipline.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesThe ability to effectively teach art history concepts in the classroom. Ability to use technology to enhance classroom instruction. Ability to use on-line resources and Learning Management Systems. Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and oral/written communication skills.
