The Information Security Operations Engineer works with the Associate Director of Information Security Engineering & Risk Management to oversee our security operations detect and respond architecture. Information Security is one of the TTS directorates in the Data Strategy family of practice charged with providing University-wide information security services that invite and empower the Tufts community to be proactive by thinking, working, and acting securely. This position will be responsible for all building and maintenance of the Information Security operational response program’s set of playbooks, in coordination with the rest of the Information Security directorate and Tufts Technology Services. The Information Security Operations Engineer will work closely with the Information Security Engineering staff to ensure operational services are deployed correctly, operating efficiently, and optimized for automation. This position is responsible for the development and deployment of incident response workflows, documenting processes, and creating training for security operations on these procedures. In addition, this position will be responsible for security consulting for projects and programs, creating/maintaining documentation on the IT security architecture and processes, and performing security operations tasks as needed for resource coverage and for operational acumen.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 4 years IT experience.
  • Advanced understanding of networking, system administration, and application trouble shooting procedures.
  • Familiarity with security tasks such as: virus cleanup/antivirus management, password or access management, patching, log analysis, firewalls, SPAM, vulnerability scans, VPNs, etc.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work under stress.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certifications are a plus such as CompTIA Security+, GIAC Information Security Fundamentals, Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator, Cisco Certified Network Associate Security (CCNA Security).
  • Scripting languages or code development for task automation.
  • Familiarity with non-profit or academic environments.

Special Work Schedule Requirements:
Should be able to drive to all three campuses. Occasional weekend and evening hours may be required. Must be able and willing to participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation for major IT outages and security incidences.
