Job Details
The Senior Electrician is responsible for maintaining a quality, comfortable, and safe environment for students, faculty and staff by maintaining, repairing, and installing electrical equipment and systems at the Alexandria Campus. This position will also manage campus contracts and ensure compliance with Federal, State, and College regulations and procedures through the oversight, inspection and evaluation of contractors.
Duties and Responsibilities• Exercise independent judgment in applying prescribed policies, procedures and technical knowledge in assigned areas.
• Serve as technical adviser on electrical matters and evaluate contracted electrical work.
• Maintain electrical equipment and systems, correct problems, and perform new electrical installations in compliance with National Electrical Codes.
• Perform main electrical installation work and preventive maintenance to include fire alarm system, sprinkler systems and emergency call boxes on the campus.
• Perform electrical maintenance and repair and trouble shoot electrical problems.
• Order and track inventory of electrical parts.
• Complete work orders and maintain electronic records
• Serve as technical adviser on electrical matters.
• May assist Building & Grounds staff.
• Will assist with snow and ice removal or other essential personnel tasks as necessary.
• Journeyman Electrician license.
• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Education or training related to contract preparation, codes, and procedures
• Valid Driver’s license with insurable driving record.
• Experience working with blueprints, diagrams or sketches.
• Experience with electrical systems and equipment.
• Experience with residential and commercial wiring.
• AAS Electrical Technology and prior experience in Educational facility is a plus.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities• Ability to work from heights and ladders.
• Ability to operate bucket truck and lifts.
• Knowledge of building codes.
• Working knowledge of blueprints, diagrams or sketches.
• Demonstrated ability to evaluate contractors performance and interpret and apply guidelines to specific actions.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate
effectively in both verbal and written form.
• Ability to lift 75 lbs on a regular basis.
• Ability to work in both hot and cold weather for long periods of time.
• Ability to serve as essential personnel to participate in snow removal & other duties and able to work any required shifts.

education, credit checks (relevant to employment), and other checks requested by the VCCS and NOVA such as
I-9 and E-Verify requirements. Additionally, selected candidates may be required to complete the Commonwealth’s
Statement of Economic Interest.
